Rajasthan Man Declared Dead Wakes Up On Funeral Pyre, Dies Hours Later; 3 Doctors Suspended

Rajasthan News: Declared dead, a deaf and mute man regained consciousness before cremation but later died during transport to Jaipur. Three doctors were suspended for negligence.

Rajasthan News: In a startling case, a 25-year-old deaf and mute man, Rohitash Kumar, declared dead by doctors in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, regained consciousness moments before his cremation. The man, who lived at the Maa Seva Sansthan shelter home in Bagad, eventually died while being transported to Jaipur for further treatment, according to news agency PTI.

On Thursday afternoon, Rohitash was admitted to the Bhagwan Das Khaitan (BDK) Hospital after falling unconscious at the shelter home. Doctors declared him dead at 2 PM after he did not respond to treatment and subsequently placed his body in the mortuary freezer for two hours, PTI reported.

The police prepared a panchnama and transported the body to a crematorium. However, as per the police accounts, Rohitash suddenly started breathing on the funeral pyre just as the last rites were about to begin around 5 PM, shocking the mourners. Attendees immediately called an ambulance, and he was rushed back to the district hospital, where he was treated in the intensive care unit.

His condition, initially described as stable, worsened, and he died on Friday morning while being transported to Jaipur for advanced care, news agency IANS reported.

Jaipur Man Death: Post-Mortem Report Exists Without Performing Procedure, Report Says

Jhunjhunu District Collector Ramavtar Meena suspended three doctors – Dr Yogesh Jakhar, Dr Navneet Meel, and PMO Dr Sandeep Pachar – for their alleged negligence, according to PTI. The District Collector also informed the secretary of the medical department and initiated an investigation. Revenue officer Mahendra Mund and Deputy Director of the Social Justice Department Pawan Poonia visited the hospital following the incident.

An investigation is now underway to ascertain whether proper post-mortem procedures were followed as the man would not have come alive if a post-mortem was done. In a peculiar twist, IANS sources revealed that his postmortem report is already there in medical records. So the next line of investigation in on.
