After Fake IPS, A Fake 'Daroga': Six-Month Impersonation Ends With Arrest For Patna Man

Patna Police arrested Vipul Paswan who roamed around posing as a police officer in uniform for six months. Paswan, a resident of Darbhanga, allegedly harassed and extorted money from local people.

Patna Fake 'Daroga': The Patna Police arrested a man who had been posing as a "daroga (police inspector)", impersonating a police officer, in Patna’s Ramkrishna Nagar area for the past six months. Identified as Vipul Paswan, the imposter was arrested on Sunday, October 27, following multiple complaints from local residents who had grown suspicious of his activities.

According to the Patna Police, Paswan, whose father's name is Ramvilas Paswan, is originally from Bahadurpur in Darbhanga district, and had been living in a rented accommodation in Sorangpur, Ramkrishna Nagar. He would patrol the area wearing a police uniform, complete with insignia, and introduce himself as a 'daroga' working in the Accountant General’s (AG) office. During his six-month charade, he allegedly harassed shopkeepers and residents, extorted money, and threatened those who questioned his authority.

'No Connection With Police'

The police came to know about him after local residents voiced their concerns, prompting officers to question Paswan. Despite his attempts to evade arrest, local pressure led the police to detain him for further investigation. During interrogation, Paswan confessed that he had no ties to the police force, officials said.

The Sadar-2 deputy superintendent of police (DSP) said Paswan had no official standing and the uniform was purely for deception. He said the man had no connection with the police department, and that the police are investigating how he obtained the uniform, and what were his motives.

The arrest comes on the heels of another incident from Jamui, Bihar, where 18-year-old Mithilesh Majhi was arrested on September 20 after he was caught posing as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer.

Majhi, a resident of Lakhisarai, had told the police that he had paid Rs 2 lakh to an "agent" who gave him a uniform and also a pistol that later turned out to be fake.
