Amritsar: NRI Shot At By 2 Men At Home As Wife, Children Plead For His Life — ON CAM

An NRI, who had recently returned from the US, was shot by two unidentified assailants in front of his family at his residence in Punjab's Amritsar.

NRI Shot In Amritsar: Two unidentified assailants shot at a non-resident Indian (NRI) at his residence in Daburji village on the outskirts of Amritsar in Punjab. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, August 24, has sparked a controversy with leaders of opposition parties questioning the law and order situation in the state. Shiromani Akali Dal's Sukhbir Badal even demanded the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over the incident.

Sukhchain Singh had recently returned from the United States and was at home with his wife and children from the first wife when the miscreants entered his house and shot at him in front of them.

According to the police, Singh was headed for a morning walk when the bike-borne assailants intercepted him outside his residence. The entire incident was captured on the CCTV cameras installed at his house.

In the video footage, they can be seen walking into his house and firing three shots at him before fleeing the scene. His children and wife can also be seen pleading the assailants to let him go.

They asked him for the registration documents of his luxury car that led to an altercation, which ended up turning violent. Two of the bullets hit Singh in the head and the third one hit him near the chest. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital, police told PTI.

Singh's wife has alleged that the family of his first wife was behind the attack.A forensic team reached the spot and an investigation is underway.

"In the morning, Maqboolpura Police Station received information about two persons open firing on an NRI man after barging into his home. We have registered a case based on the family’s testimony and they expressed suspicion of involvement of the man’s dead wife's relatives," Amritsar Commissioner of Police Ranjit Singh Dhillon said.

What Is Punjab Police Doing?: BJP Slams Govt For 'Brutal' Attack

Bharatiya Janata Party national secretary Majinder Singh Sirsa criticised the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government over the brutal attack on the NRI in Amritsar.

In a post on X, Sirsa said: "Deeply pained and shocked!! Looks like there is no law and order in Punjab under AAP. Today’s brutal attack on NRI Sukhchain Singh in his own home in Duburji, Sri Amritsar Sahib, shows how Bhagwant Mann's Rangla Punjab is just a dialogue while daylight murders, extortion and gangster interviews from jail, threats etc have become the new normal in the state. What is Punjab Police doing?"

AAP's Incompetence Has Made Punjab A Danger Zone: Congress

Congress leader Amarinder Singh Raja Warring also slammed the AAP government over the incident over how the party's "incompetence has made Punjab a danger zone".

Hitting out at Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, Warring tweeted: "Bhagwant mann ji, Punjab need action not 'bhashan'. NRIs, once proud to call Punjab their home, now live in FEAR! An NRI shot inside his home, in front of his family!"

Bhagwant Mann Should Resign: SAD's Sukhbir Badal

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Badal expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and demanded CM Mann's resignation.

"The law and order situation in Punjab has completely deteriorated. I am deeply saddened by the current state of Punjab. This morning, in Duburji, Amritsar Sahib, notorious criminals entered the house of NRI brother Sukhchain Singh and openly fired shots. The mother was pleading with folded hands to save her son, and the innocent child was trying to save his father, but the ruthless criminals did not listen to them," Badal stated in a post on X.

"Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, such incidents are happening daily under your government, and Punjabis no longer feel safe even in their homes. I believe you should resign on moral grounds," the SAD leader added. He also wished speedy recovery of Sukhchain Singh, who is in a critical condition and is under treatment.
