‘Ripped My Bottom Shorts’: Noida Woman Alleges Sexual Assault And Police Inaction. Cops Respond To Viral Video

A Noida woman alleged that she was sexually assaulted while out in the rain at her gated society in Sector 49. She alleged that the police did not register her complaint and in turn, blamed her for being out in the rain.

Noida: A woman residing in Noida Sector 49 claimed in a video that she was sexually assaulted in her gated society, while she was out in the rain at a park near her house two days ago. Accusing Noida police of inaction, the woman named Anwesa Dey alleged that when she went to the Sector-49 police station to file a complaint, the police refused to register it, suggesting that it was her fault that she was out there in the rain at the time.

The woman also alleged that the CCTV footage of the park was unavailable, despite the society being under surveillance.

Responding to the claims made by the girl in the video, the Police Commissionerate Gautam Buddh Nagar shared a statement on X, which stated that a written complaint was filed by the Noida police on August 3.

"In relation to the mentioned case, a written complaint was filed today, August 3, 2024, by the victim at Sector-49 police station. An FIR has been immediately registered under the strictest sections," the statement read.

The police also stated clearly that it was examining the CCTV footage of the location and surrounding areas, where the victim was recording a video while getting drenched in the rain.

"Strict action will be taken today itself," the Noida police assured.

Here's What The Woman Claimed In The Video

Narrating the incident that occurred with her, the woman, identified as Anwesa Dey by her Instagram profile, said in the video that she was "sexually assaulted two days ago in Noida Sector-49."

"I was at a park near my house as I wanted to enjoy in the rain.  A stranger came, groped me, and then went on to him ripping my bottom shorts. He wanted to go for more obviously...but two girls came in between after which he had to run away," she said.

"It was such a scary moment for me because I don't know what would have happened to me...I went to the police station but they were of no help as they have better cases to deal with. They didn't file an FIR," the woman claimed in the video.

She further alleged that the police's reaction suggested that it was her fault as to why she was out there at that time in the rain.

"It was 7:30, there were people around, and still this happened. Then we came to check the CCTV of the society... People don't have any password. It's a gated society and it's supposed to be safe but most of the security cameras are not working and there is no electricity. So there is no footage and people don't even have a password. They don't know how to access the footages..." the woman claimed.

"It was a messed up situation. I can't wrap my head around it completely," she added.

Towards the end of the video, the woman said that the reason why she filmed the video was to request people to stay safe and alert, be it man, woman, nonbinary. "Just look out for yourself," she said.
