Delhi: Planning To Have New Year Celebration At Connaught Place, India Gate? Check Traffic Advisory For Restrictions

As per the advisory, parking space will be available on first come first serve basis and vehicles parked in unauthorised spots shall be towed away and prosecuted.

Delhi Police on Saturday issued a traffic advisory regarding the arrangements and restrictions that will be in place across the national capital on the eve of New Year celebrations. The advisory has been issued as police are anticipating a massive crowd and traffic movemennt in the city, especially in and around Connaught Place.

Traffic personnel will be deployed at various areas of the city, mainly focusing at the markets, malls, and where people come for the celebrations like Connaught Place, Hauz Khas etc.

Special traffic arrangements have been made by the Delhi Traffic Police for the areas in the vicinity of Connaught Place area as it is expected to be visited by a huge crowd on the eve of New Year, news agency PTI reported citing a police officer.

Traffic Curbs At Connaught Place On New Year's Eve

The restrictions shall be imposed from 8 PM onwards on Tuesday, December 31, in Connaught Place and will remain in place till the New Year celebrations end. The curbs will be applicable to all private and public transport vehicles, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dhal Singh said.

Vehicle shall not be allowed to enter Connaught Place beyond these points:

  • Mandi House rounadbout
  • Bengali Market roundabout
  • North foot of Ranjit Singh flyover
  • Minto Road – Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg crossing
  • RK Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg crossing,
  • Gole Market roundabout
  • GPO roundabout
  • Kasturba Gandhi road

According to reports, vehicles will also not be allowed to enter Connaught Place beyond Chelmsford road near Munje Chowk, Patel Chowk, Jai Singh road-Bangla Sahib lane, Windsor Place roundabout, and General Post Office roundabout.

The DCP also warned of strict action against drunken driving, stunt biking, over speeding, reckless driving, zig-zag, dangerous driving, etc. Only those carrying valid passes will be allowed in inner, middle or outer circle of Connaught Place.

Parking Arrangements Near Connaught Place

As per the Delhi Police's advisory, parking will be available at these locations near Connaught Place:

  • Gole Dak Khana
  • Patel Chowk on Rakab Ganj Road behind AIR
  • Mandi House on Copernicus Marg upto Baroda House
  • Minto Road on DD Upadhaya Marg and Press Road area
  • Panchkuian Road on RK Ashram Marg
  • Kasturba Gandhi Marg-Ferozshah Road Crossing on Copernicus Lane
  • Windsor Place.

However, parking space will be available on first come first serve basis and vehicles parked in unauthorised spots shall be towed away and prosecuted.

Traffic Advisory For People Visiting India Gate 

Delhi Police has also made elaborate arrangements for regulation of traffic for both pedestrian and vehicular movement at and around India Gate.

In case of heavy pedestrian movement, vehicles may not be allowed to go through:

  • Q-Point
  • Sunheri Masjid roundabout 
  • Rajpath Rafi Marg
  • Windsor Place roundabout 
  • Rajindra Prasad road-Janpath roundabout 
  • KG Marg-Ferozeshah Road
  • Mandi House roundabout 
  • Mathura Road-Purana Qila road

DCP Singh has advised visitors to use public transport as there limited parking space at India Gate.

A large gathering is expected at Delhi Zoo, due to which motorists are advised to avoid Bhairon Road/Mathura Road between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan to avoid congestion.
