A man in Madhya Pradesh died by suicide on Instagram Live, blaming his wife and mother-in-law, leading to their arrest.
A man in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa died by suicide on an Instagram live session, blaming his wife and mother-in law. According to news agency PTI quoting officials, the police arrested the two women.
Shiv Prakash Tripathi took the extreme step on March 16, which was witnessed by his wife, said Sub Divisional Officer of Police Umesh Prajapati. The official also said that the man married Priya Sharma two years ago. According to the official, the man apparently learnt that his wife was in a relationship with another person.
In the Instagram clip, the man says that he would be ending his life because of his mother-in-law and wife. He also claimed that the marriage ruined his happiness. Police have also arrested the man's wife and mother-in-law. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
According to The Hindu, a case under Baratiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 108 (abetment to suicide) was filed, and an investigation is underway.
Mr. Prajapati said that video evidence also shows that the deceased’s wife had joined the live stream as an audience.
“He first explained his situation and how he was being harassed, and killed himself while the stream kept going,” he said.
A report by The Hindu also mentions that the officer said that the duo had gotten married about two years ago and share a daughter who lives with her mother.
“There are also allegations that his wife had an affair with another man but we are still investigating this aspect,” he said.
“He alleged that while his wife is not coming back home, she is also not agreeing for a divorce,” Prajapati said.
