'Saw Doctor Covered With Blood, Ran Away In Panic': What Kolkata Rape Accused Told His Lawyer, CBI — Report

Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor has said to his lawyer that he wants to plead "not guilty" in court.

The main accused in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sanjay Roy has said that he saw the doctor covered in blood when he entered the seminar room. In his first interaction with his lawyer in Presidency Jail, Roy told his lawyer Kavita Sarkar that he wanted to plead "not guilty" in court.

The accused was subjected to a polygraph test last month where he was asked about 10 questions, including what he did next after committing the murder, reported The Times of India. 

At this point, Roy interrupted and claimed that he did not kill the doctor so such a question does not arise. He said that he entered the room and found the woman lying unconscious. 

During the test and his interaction with Sarkar, Roy claimed he was being framed adding that he did not even know the woman. 

Roy told the Central Bureau of Investigation that he did not intend to go to the seminar room, where the body of the doctor was found, but had entered accidentally. 

On August 9, Roy had gone to the upper floor of the hospital in the wee hours to look for a doctor as a patient known to him needed oxygen. At this juncture, he had entered the seminar hall on the third floor of the hospital. 

He told the investigators that he entered the room and saw her covered in blood. He claimed that he rushed out of the spot in panic. On being asked by a CBI officer as to why he did not inform the police outpost at RG Kar Hospital if he was not guilty, he said he panicked and feared no one would believe his statements.
