South Korea: Man Makes Huge Donation To Temple To Repent Money Stolen Nearly 30 Years Ago
A temple in South Korea recently received a surprising donation when its staff found an anonymous letter in the donation box. The envelope contained 2 million won (approximately Rs 1.25 lakh), along with a note apologising for a theft that had occurred nearly 30 years ago.
According to a report in the South China Morning Post, the writer of the letter was a young boy in 1997, during the Asian financial crisis, when he stole 30,000 won from the Jajangam Hermitage at Tongdosa Temple in Gyeongsang province.
Citing the Korea Times, the report noted that the boy had taken the money home wrapped in a fishing net.
The man, who did not reveal his name or any personal details, expressed remorse for his actions 27 years ago. He explained that a transformative moment in his life had led him to live a "respectable life" through hard work.
