Delhi: Thief Steals Car With Children Inside, Demands Rs 50 Lakh Ransom, Abandons Plan After 3-Hour Police Chase
In Delhi's Laxmi Nagar, the thief stole a car with two children inside and demanded a Rs 50 lakh ransom. Delhi Police teams pursued the kidnapper for 150-200 km and recovered the children and car in Samapur Badli.
In the Laxmi Nagar area of Delhi, a thief stole a car with two children inside it, aged two and eleven, and later demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh. The event took place on Friday night when the parents left their two children in the engine-running vehicle while they went into a nearby confectionery shop, police reported on Saturday.
Officials stated that the incident occurred around 11:40 pm when a couple went to a confectionery shop on Laxmi Nagar Vikas Marg, leaving their two children in the parked car with the engine running and AC on. During this time, a suspect opened the car door and drove off with the children inside.
"The parents had briefly gone inside Heera Sweets to buy sweets when the car was stolen. When they came back, their vehicle and children were missing. Later, they approached the police and lodged a complaint," officials said, news agency ANI reported.

Soon the police were informed about the kidnapping of those two children inside the car. Officials reported that the kidnapper demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from the children's parents, negotiating through their mother's phone during the kidnapping.
Kidnapper Abandons Car With Kids Inside After 3-Hour Chase
As soon as police received the information about the incident, police activated its rescue teams immediately. SHO Shakarpur and the mother of the victim, SHO Laxmi Nagar, and the victim's father, along with two additional teams from PS Shakarpur, began chasing the car based on technical surveillance. Teams of Special Staff, ANS, and ACP Madhu Vihar were also mobilised for the search operation.
Avnish Kumar, additional DCP East, remarked that several Delhi Police teams were formed as soon as they received the information. At least 40 to 50 police officers in 20 vehicles chased the victim's car. "The kidnapper was constantly changing their route. He reached Wazirabad via Ashok Nagar and then Outer North district. He realized that the police were chasing him, which is why he kept changing routes," he said, ANI reported.

The car was recovered after a 150–200 km pursuit by the Delhi Police team. After about twenty police cars were involved in a three-hour chase, the kidnapper abandoned the car with the kids inside and ran away. In the Samapur Badli area, the children and the car were discovered abandoned.
"The accused also had a hammer and a knife," the additional DCP pointed out. "Both children are safe and have been reunited with their parents," he said, adding that some valuables items, including jewellery and mobile phones, were found unharmed as the kidnapper fled under the pressure of being chased by the police.
Several police teams were involved in the search and rescue operation, including those from the RPF and the Outer North district. The police scanned CCTV footage of the area to identify the accused."The suspect will be arrested soon," officials stated.
