Gurugram News: A cab driver associated with BluSmart has been arrested for allegedly robbing a woman passenger at gunpoint, Gurugram Police officials said on Monday. The accused, Sonu Singh, a native of Uttar Pradesh residing in Badha village, was apprehended on Sunday, and a city court remanded him to one-day police custody.
According to the police, the incident occurred on 29 November when the victim booked a cab from Airia Mall to Microtek Greenburg, a housing society in Sector 86, news agency PTI reported. In her complaint, the woman alleged that upon reaching Sector 83, the driver pointed a gun at her, forced her to transfer Rs 55,000 via her mobile phone, and fled after snatching her bag. An FIR was registered at the Kherki Daula police station, and further investigation is underway to recover the stolen money, a police spokesperson confirmed.

BluSmart Says Taking Immediate Steps To Further Strengthen Safety Protocols
In response to the incident, BluSmart issued a statement on 3 December, expressing their deep regret. "We are deeply saddened and disturbed by the recent incident where a BluSmart rider and their child were robbed. The safety and security of our riders is our utmost priority," the statement read.
The company highlighted its existing safety measures, including mandatory background checks, face-to-face interviews, driving tests, facial recognition technology for driver verification, and a dedicated rider safety helpline. BluSmart further stated that its "exhaustive documentation" and prompt actions facilitated the police in nabbing the accused within 24 hours.

Terming the incident as "disturbing," BluSmart assured immediate action to bolster safety protocols. "We are taking immediate steps to further strengthen our safety protocols, including additional training for our driver-partners and enhanced technology solutions," the statement read. The company apologised to the victim’s family and pledged continued support, vowing to ensure safer and more comfortable rides for all passengers.
The case has drawn significant attention, raising concerns over the safety of app-based cab services.
