Delhi: Out-Of-Control Bus Rams Into Pedestrians In Civil Lines Area, Policeman Among 2 Injured

Delhi News: An uncontrolled bus veered off course and rammed into pedestrians near Monastery Market in Delhi’s Civil Lines area, leaving two injured, including a policeman. Scenes of panic and chaos ensued as the bus struck a police barricade near the Monastery Market injuring two persons. The vehicle stopped when it collided with a divider.

The injured are said to be in a serious condition. More details about the accident are awaited.

36 Killed, 27 Injured As Overcrowded Bus Plunges Into Gorge In Uttarakhand

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, 36 people lost their lives in Uttarakhand’s Almora district on Monday when an overcrowded bus plunged into a 200-metre gorge. The bus, carrying over 60 passengers, was returning from Diwali celebrations and heading from Pauri in the Garhwal region to Ramnagar in Kumaon, around 250 kilometres away. The vehicle, operated by the private Garhwal Motor Owners Union, lost control around 8 am in the Marchula area, approximately 35 kilometres from Ramnagar, said District Magistrate Alok Kumar Pandey.

"The rescue operation lasted around five hours," officials reported, as per news agency PTI. Of the 36 deceased, 10 were women; 28 died on the spot, while eight succumbed to injuries at Ramdutt Joshi Joint Hospital in Ramnagar. Twenty-seven other passengers were injured, with four in critical condition.

A magisterial probe has been initiated, with the assistant regional transport officers of Pauri and Almora districts suspended.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed their grief at the loss of lives in the accident and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. PM Modi also announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased and assistance of Rs 50,000 for the injured.
