3 Dead, 14 Injured After House Collapse In Delhi's Karol Bagh, Rescue Ops Underway

Seven people have been rescued so far. However, the authorities believe that more people are trapped.

Three people have died and 14 others have been injured after a house collapsed in the Karol Bagh area of the national capital.

So far, seven individuals have been rescued, ANI quoted Delhi Police as saying.

Authorities believe that more people are trapped under the rubble. Local police, along with other agencies, are conducting the rescue operations, the police added.

Five fire engines were rushed to the scene for search and rescue efforts following the alert about the house collapse at 9:11 AM. The rescue operation is still ongoing.

The collapse in Karol Bagh adds to a series of rain-related incidents in Delhi and surrounding areas. Last week, heavy rain caused a wall to collapse at a dargah in Central Delhi's Nabi Karim area, resulting in one fatality.

Atshi Asks District Magistrate To Assist Those Affected

Delhi's Chief Minister-designate Atishi has directed the District Magistrate to assist those affected and ensure proper treatment for the injured. She has also called for an investigation into the incident.

Atishi noted, "I have spoken to the Municipal Corporation Mayor regarding the accident. There has been a lot of rain this year, my appeal to all the people of Delhi is that if there is any possibility of any accident related to construction, then immediately inform the administration and the corporation, and the government will immediately help you. "

"Delhi government will give compensation amount of Rs 10 lakhs to the families of the deceased persons. Appropriate compensation will given to those who suffered injuries in the incident. Legal action will be taken against the building owner, " she added.

Over the incident, MCD also issued a statement saying "A two story building bearing number 16/33-i has collapsed today in the morning at around 9 AM in the Bapa Nagar area of Karol Bagh Zone. It was a very old building. Teams of DFS, NDRF and MCD had rushed to the site immediately after receipt of the information about the incident. The rescue operation has been completed. The area falls in the Special Area category. The area of the plot is approximately 25/30 Sqm. The reason of the collapse could not be ascertained."

"The building had not been found to be under dangerous condition during the pre-monsoon survey done by the Maintenance Department. Neither any new construction was being taken up nor any building material was found around/ in the collapsed premises. As per the report 14 people have been injured and 3 persons have lost their lives, " it added.

Recent heavy rainfall in Delhi-NCR has also led to traffic disruptions, with massive jams reported. On Tuesday evening, traffic congestion stretched 1-2 kilometers in several areas, including Delhi's Ring Road and the Noida Bypass flyover.
