Delhi Customs Seize 379 Gm Gold Worth Rs 29 Lakh Concealed As Metal Buttons At IGI Airport
While the accused managed to somehow clear the door frame metal detector, he was caught during the X-ray scanning of the baggage when customs officers noticed suspicious images.
The Delhi Customs department on Tuesday said that they seized nearly 379 grams of gold worth Rs 29 lakh from the possession of an Indian male passenger at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on January 6. The gold had been concealed as metal buttons of clothes.
The accused was travelling from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and was intercepted upon his arrival at the international airport in the national capital.
While the accused managed to somehow clear the door frame metal detector, he was caught during the X-ray scanning of the baggage when customs officers noticed suspicious images.
"While the passenger cleared the DFMD (door frame metal detector) without triggering any alarms, a detailed manual inspection of the baggage revealed 201 silver-coated rings appearing to be made of gold, ingeniously concealed as metal buttons of apparel," the customs department said in a post on X.
"Through spot profiling techniques, customs officers flagged the passenger at the Green Channel exit. Upon X-ray scanning of the baggage, suspicious images were noticed," it added.

Man Intercepted With Gold Worth Rs 46.80 Lakh At IGI Airport
In another case, the Delhi customs on Tuesday intercepted another male passenger after his arrival from Jeddah after finding 600 grams of gold valued at approximately Rs 46.80 lakhs in his possession.
"The passenger underwent screening through a DFMD, which did not detect any metallic items on the person (no beep was heard). However, during an X-ray examination of the baggage, suspicious images were noticed," the customs said in another post.
When the passenger’s baggage was checked manually, eight cylindrical pieces of yellow metal, suspected to be gold, were found. They were concealed inside an electric iron, the customs department isaid.
