Bareilly: Fake Doctor Arrested For Issuing Bogus MBBS Degrees To 400 Students In Rs 3.7 Crore Fraud, Police Say

Bareilly news: Police reported that the suspect and his associates had generated fake degrees from universities in Orissa, Himachal Pradesh, Roorkee, and Kanpur.

Bareilly news: A fake doctor was apprehended for selling fraudulent medical degrees to over 400 students, scamming them out of more than Rs 3 crore in the Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh, police reported on Wednesday. The accused was identified as Vijay Sharma.

Superintendent of Police, Manush Pareek, told news agency PTI, "The investigation revealed that Khusro Memorial P.G. College had issued fake MBBS degrees from various universities to approximately 400 students. The college management that included Vijay Sharma collected around Rs 3.7 crore in fees from these students who were unaware of the fraudulent degrees until they attempted to apply for licenses or jobs."

Pareek also said Vijay Sharma falsely claimed to have a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) degree. His truth was exposed after the investigation by the police.

Last week, in connection with this case, two individuals including the owner of the college were apprehended and the college was sealed by the administration. Sharma, who had been on the run, was arrested on Wednesday. He confessed to being part of a scheme to produce and sell fake degrees, according to Pareek.

"Sharma said that he and his associates had generated fake degrees from universities in Orissa, Himachal Pradesh, Roorkee, and Kanpur. The funds obtained from selling these degrees were used to acquire substantial property," the SP added.

Sharma also has a criminal history, with three prior cases of fraud and forgery. He had previously completed a course in Naturopathy and Yoga Sciences and established a consultancy that issued fake degrees to graduates, the officer added.

Fake Doctor Arrested In Maharashtra's Nalasopara

A similar case came to light from Maharashtra, where Nalasopara police arrested a Class 12 dropout who had been posing as a doctor and treating patients for over a decade without a valid degree or license.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the accused, identified as Tirumal Teli, had been practicing medicine at the Varsha Clinic in Nalasopara for 12 years. The 59-year-old was arrested after Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) officials raided his clinic on Sunday and discovered he lacked any degree or certification to practise medicine.
