UP: Five People Fall Unconscious After Gas Leak At Meat Factory In Aligarh
A gas leak at a meat factory in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh, left five people unconscious on Sunday night.
Five people fell unconscious after a reported ammonia gas leak at a meat factory in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh district on Sunday night. Among the people who fell unconscious were four women and a man who were taken to a hospital for treatment.
The incident took place when the workers were working the evening shift in the factory. The situation inside the factory became serious as the workers were not provided with safety equipment.
"The smell of gas was so strong that people started feeling dizzy within a few seconds. As the condition of the women deteriorated, they were immediately taken out," a worker said.
Dr Sachin Verma at the Malkhan Singh District Hospital said the four women and the man were brought from Amarpur Kondla by a man who identified himself as Jannat Ali.

All the people affected by the gas leak were given first aid and when hospital staff was doing paperwork, Ali left with the patients without informing anyone in the hospital.
"There were four women and one man. They were brought here from Amarpur Kondla. The man who brought them here identified himself as Jannat Ali...They said that there was a gas leakage due to which these people fell unconscious...We provided them with first aid and oxygen. When we were doing our paperwork, Jannat Ali left with them without informing us," Verma said, reported ANI.
Additional District Magistrate Amit Bhatt said a team of police and rescue personnel reached the factory after receiving information about the gas leak.
The operations of the factory have been halted with immediate effect, said the ADM adding that an investigation will be carried out to ascertain the cause of the gas leak. Appropriate action will be taken against the factory management if any shortcoming is found, he added.
Bhatt also said that the health condition of the five victims is stable.
The news of the gas leak triggered panic among local residents who said that such instances have taken place in past as well and demanded action from the government.
"Such incidents are happening again and again. The government should regularly inspect factories. Our lives are always in danger," a local resident Hamid Hussain told ABP News.
