Swiggy CEO Slams Hustle Culture, Advises Against Working Till 3 AM; Video Goes Viral

He expressed significant concerns about that culture, emphasising the importance of spending quality time with family and loved ones

Several successful people promote the hustle culture, which causes relentless stress of pursuing success at the expense of work-life balance. While some individuals may adopt this mindset, it carries considerable risks. However, Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food and Marketplace, argues that this approach is misguided.

At a recent event, he voiced his belief that sacrificing health and personal relationships by working late into the night is ultimately unproductive.

During a conversation at Techsparks, a recent event in Bengaluru, Kapoor acknowledged that while there are days when working late is necessary, it shouldn’t be an everyday occurrence. “But wo jo 3 baje raat ko baithte hai na wo ye nahi batate ki wo 1 baje dopahar ko office ate hai (Those who say they work till 3 am never say that they reach the office by 1 pm next day),” he remarked in a video. He expressed significant concerns about that culture, emphasising the importance of spending quality time with family and loved ones.

He emphasises the importance of hard work, stating that you need to work " hard," but not to the extent that it compromises your personal life.

With over 32,000 likes, the video has garnered significant attention. Many viewers resonated with Kapoor’s remarks, while others voiced strong opinions about the glorification of hustle culture and the urgent need to put an end to it.

Referring to Infosys Founder Narayana Murthy’s controversial comment about encouraging young people to work 70 hours a week, one user commented, “Narayan murthy want’s to know his location.”

Another user wrote, “someone had to say this. hustle should be being honest to your work. work 8 hours but be honest to yourself in that 8 hours, be your most productive self in that time.”

“Thanks for saying it u have no idea people are dying that also young people only child of parents are dying bcoz of hustle culture,” added a third user.
