Stock Market Holiday: BSE, NSE will remain shut on May 20 due to the Lok Sabha elections in Mumbai as part of the fifth phase of the seven-phase election process
Stock Market Holiday: The BSE and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will observe two market holidays in May. The first closure will take place on May 1 in honour of Maharashtra Day, marking the establishment of the state on May 1, 1960, following India's linguistic reorganisation of states. The second closure will occur on May 20 due to the Lok Sabha elections, with polling scheduled across all six Lok Sabha seats in Mumbai as part of the fifth phase of the seven-phase election process.
The ongoing elections in Maharashtra span five phases, with voting having already concluded on April 19 and April 26. The remaining phases will take place on May 7, May 13, and May 20.
In observance of Labour Day and Maharashtra Day, banks in several Indian states, including Maharashtra, will also be closed on May 1. Labour Day celebrates workers' achievements and ongoing efforts to secure fair wages and better working conditions.
Additionally, in some states, banks will be closed to mark May Day, also known as Labour Day. This day is dedicated to celebrating the contributions and achievements of workers, as well as the ongoing efforts to improve working conditions, secure fair wages, and advocate for social justice.
In many countries, including India, May 1 is observed as Labour Day or International Workers' Day. Therefore, banks in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Kerala, West Bengal, Goa, and Bihar will be closed on May 1.
Investors and traders should plan their schedules accordingly due to the market holidays and bank closures in the affected states.
