Share Market Today: On the 30-share Sensex platform, Asian Paints, HUL, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma, Airtel, PowerGrid emerged in the green
Share Market Today: The two key equity benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, on Wednesday pared their initial losses and climbed up amid volatility tracking tepid global cues. At 11.15 am, the BSE Sensex gained 145 points to 82,067. On the other hand, the NSE Nifty50 was trading at 25,086, rising 46 points.
Stock update
On the 30-share Sensex platform, Asian Paints, HUL, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma, Airtel, PowerGrid emerged in the green. On the contrary, Tata Motors dropped the most, 5.49 per cent on UBS ‘sell’ call. M&M, JSW Steel, ICICI Bank, NTPC, HDFC Bank were among the losers.
Sectoral update
Among sectoral indices, Nifty Auto led the losses, falling by 1 per cent, followed by Nifty Realty with a 0.5 per cent decline. Nifty Metal and PSU Bank indices also slipped by nearly 0.5 per cent each. On the positive side, Nifty FMCG advanced by 0.6 per cent, while Nifty Pharma and Nifty IT gained 0.3 per cent and 0.2 per cent, respectively.
In the previous session on Tuesday, the BSE benchmark jumped 362 points to closed at 81,921, while the NSE Nifty50 gained 105 points to 25,041.
Global update
In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong were trading lower. Japan's Nikkei fell 0.8 per cent, while Chinese stocks eased again. The Shanghai Composite index was down 0.75 per cent lower while the blue-chip index fell 0.16 per cent. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index slipped 1 per cent. The US markets ended mostly with gains on Tuesday.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 2,208.23 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.59 per cent to $69.60 a barrel.
Rupee appreciates 2 paise
The rupee traded in a narrow range on Wednesday and appreciated 2 paise to 83.96 against the American currency, on easing crude oil prices and tracking its Asian peers.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit moved in a narrow range. It opened at 83.97 against the American currency and was at 83.96 in initial trade, registering a rise of 2 paise over its previous close. On Tuesday, the rupee depreciated 3 paise to close at 83.98 against the American currency.
