New FASTag Rules: Key Changes And Compliance Guidelines You Need To Know

New FASTag Rules: These changes are designed to enhance the efficiency of the toll payment system and ensure that all FASTag-related data is up-to-date and accurate

New FASTag Rules: The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced updated rules for FASTag users, aiming to streamline toll payment processes and reduce congestion at toll plazas across the country. The new regulations, which took effect from August 1, focus on mandatory KYC updates and other crucial compliance requirements.

Here are the key updates:

Replacement of 5-Year-Old FASTags: FASTags that are older than five years must be replaced immediately to comply with the new regulations.

KYC Update for 3-Year-Old FASTags: Users with FASTags issued three years ago are required to update their Know Your Customer (KYC) details. This process is mandatory and begins on Thursday.

Vehicle Information Linking: FASTag users must ensure that their vehicle registration number and chassis number are accurately linked with their FASTag account.

New Vehicle Registration: When purchasing a new vehicle, the registration number must be updated within 90 days in the FASTag system.

Database Verification: FASTag service providers are required to verify their databases, ensuring all linked details match the information in the VAHAN database, India’s national vehicle registry.

Photo Upload Requirement: Users must upload clear photographs of their vehicle’s front and side views as part of the compliance process.

Mobile Number Linking: It is now mandatory for FASTags to be linked to a mobile number, ensuring that users receive timely notifications and updates.

These changes are designed to enhance the efficiency of the toll payment system and ensure that all FASTag-related data is up-to-date and accurate. NPCI highlights that compliance with these new rules is essential for uninterrupted service at toll booths nationwide.

Currently, user fees are collected on about 45,000 km of National Highways and Expressways at around 1,000 toll plazas across India. With a 98 per cent adoption rate and over 80 million users, FASTag has significantly transformed electronic toll collection in the country.
