Free Aadhaar Card Update Deadline Extended; Step-By-Step Guide To Change Your Address

UIDAI has encouraged Aadhaar holders, particularly those who received their Aadhaar more than 10 years ago and have never updated it, to take advantage of this free window

Indian citizens now have until June 14, 2025, to update their Aadhaar details online for free. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the earlier deadline of December 14, 2024, giving Aadhaar holders an additional six months to make changes to their demographic details, such as Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA), through the myAadhaar portal.

Starting June 15, 2025, any updates made at physical Aadhaar enrolment centers will attract a fee of Rs 50 per request, which remains the same as the current offline charge.

UIDAI has encouraged Aadhaar holders, particularly those who received their Aadhaar more than 10 years ago and have never updated it, to take advantage of this free window. Updating your information helps ensure the accuracy of your Aadhaar record and minimizes the chances of service disruptions or denial of government benefits due to outdated details.

How To Update Aadhaar Online

To update PoI and PoA:

  1. Visit the myAadhaar portal at https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.

  2. Log in using your 12-digit Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.

  3. Upload scanned copies of valid documents for PoI and PoA.

  4. Submit the update request and save the 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) to track your application.

To update your address online:

  1. Go to the Aadhaar self-service update portal.

  2. Click on ‘Proceed to Update Address’.

  3. Enter your new address and upload the relevant proof.

  4. Submit the request and note your URN for future reference.

Once approved, the updated Aadhaar can be downloaded from the same portal.
