Govt Mandates Retention Of Daughters' Names In Pension Records, Reinforcing Family Inclusion
Family Pension Rules: The recent memorandum specifies that daughters are to be recognised as official family members upon submission of their names by government servants in the prescribed Form 4
Family Pension Rules: In a move to underscore the importance of daughters in government pension schemes, the Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare (DoPPW) has issued a new directive requiring that the names of daughters be retained in family records even after the retirement of government employees, irrespective of their eligibility for a family pension.
The recent memorandum specifies that daughters are to be recognised as official family members upon submission of their names by government servants in the prescribed Form 4. This directive applies to all daughters, regardless of their qualification for family pension benefits.
New Directive
Under the directive, government employees must list their complete family details, including all children, when they enter service, using Form 4. This information is to be updated and verified before retirement, ensuring daughters’ names are retained in the official family records post-retirement.
Addressing Concerns Over Removal of Daughters' Names
The DoPPW’s directive comes in response to previous concerns regarding the potential removal of daughters’ names from family records upon an employee’s retirement. The department has clarified that such names must remain in family records, highlighting the role of daughters as integral family members.

Family Pension Eligibility Clarified
The memorandum also clarifies that eligibility for family pension benefits will be determined only after the passing of the pensioner or family pensioners, in accordance with existing government regulations.
All ministries and departments have been instructed to ensure compliance with this directive, with responsible personnel advised to incorporate these new requirements into their pension procedures.
This policy marks a progressive step in recognising daughters within the structure of government pension benefits, reinforcing inclusivity and equitable treatment of all family members.
