Share Market Today: Sensex Rises 182 Points; Nifty Settles Above 23,460. Auto Stocks Lead

Share market today: On the 30-share Sensex platform, M&M, Titan, HDFC Bank, Reliance, Tata Motors, UltraCemco were the gainers

Share market today: The two key equity benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty, on Friday closed in the green for a third straight session. The BSE Sensex gained 182 points to close at 76,993. On the other hand, the NSE Nifty50 settled at 23,466, up 67 points. The 50-stock index hit a new lifetime high of 23,490.40 in the intra-day trade.

Stock update

On the 30-share Sensex platform, M&M, Titan, HDFC Bank, Reliance, Tata Motors, UltraCemco were the gainers. On the flip side, TechM, TCS, Wipro, HCLTech, Kotak Bank, L&T emerged losers.        

In the broader markets, the BSE Midcap and the BSE Smallcap hit new lifetime highs during intraday trading. The indices closed over 1 per cent higher each.

Sectoral update

Sectorally, Nifty Auto index gained 1.3 per cent, the Nifty Realty 0.8 per cent, and the Nifty Metal 0.7 per cent.

In the previous session on Thursday, the BSE benchmark closed at 76,811, up 204 points. On the other hand, the NSE Nifty50 jumped 76 points to settle at 23,399.

Global update

In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, and Shanghai settled higher, while Hong Kong ended lower. European markets were quoting lower in mid-session deals. US markets ended on a mixed note on Thursday.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 3,033 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data.

Global oil benchmark Brent crude dipped 0.12 per cent to $82.65 a barrel.

Rupee gains 2 paise

Meanwhile, the rupee consolidated in a narrow range and settled 2 paise lower at 83.56 (provisional) against US dollar on Friday, as positive domestic markets and a decline in crude oil prices supported the rupee, while strong US Dollar and FII outflows capped sharp gains.

Forex traders said rupee was seen resilient against the dollar, on hawkish Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting and commentary by the Fed Chair.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the local unit opened at 83.54 and finally settled for the day lower by 2 paise at 83.56 (provisional) against the American currency. On Thursday, the rupee settled for the day lower by 6 paise at 83.54 against the US dollar.
