Ranbir Kapoor says the Kapoor family was nervous about meeting PM Modi
Reflecting on the meeting, Ranbir Kapoor shared the family’s nervous excitement. "It’s a special day for our Kapoor family," he said in a video from the event. He expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s acknowledgment of Raj Kapoor’s legacy. “The PM gave such honour to Shri Raj Kapoor and us his precious time. We will always be grateful for this meeting. We had such fun with our sit-down gupchup (chat), because we could ask so many personal questions too. He has a very friendly nature, and all our nervousness—hum sabki hawa tight thi (we were all quite nervous)—but he made us all feel very comfortable.”
In a lighthearted moment during the interaction, Rima Kapoor appeared flustered while addressing PM Modi, trying to find the right words. Her hesitant attempts prompted the Prime Minister to jokingly interject with a cheerful “Cut!”, leaving everyone in laughter.
When Ranbir Kapoor told a taxi driver in Russia he is Raj Kapoor's grandson
During the meeting, Ranbir Kapoor shared an amusing anecdote. His aunt, Rima, narrated an incident from one of Ranbir’s trips abroad. "Ranbir was in a car with a Russian taxi driver who asked, ‘Are you from India?’ and then started singing a song. The driver excitedly asked if Ranbir was Raj Kapoor’s grandson," she recalled. Ranbir added with a smile, "I told him I’m Raj Kapoor’s grandson, and ever since, I always seem to get free taxi rides!"
The Prime Minister also spoke about Raj Kapoor’s contributions to Indian cinema and his global appeal. PM Modi recalled how former leaders LK Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee once turned to a Raj Kapoor movie, Phir Subah Hogi, to lift their spirits after an election loss in Delhi. “That was the kind of influence films had in those days,” he noted.
