Is Muhurat Trading On October 31 Or November 1? Check Here The Details

Muhurat trading boasts a rich tradition in Indian markets, with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) being one of the first to formalise this practice

As Diwali approaches, Indian stock exchanges, including the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), and Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX), have announced the date for their annual Muhurat trading session. This special trading period coincides with the Diwali festivities and is considered an auspicious occasion for investors to make new investments.

The special Muhurat trading session is scheduled for Friday, November 1, 2024, as announced in an official notification from the NSE. While Diwali is celebrated on October 31 in most regions, some areas will observe it on November 1, reflecting local customs and traditions variations.

“A special live trading session shall be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, on account of Muhurat trading on Diwali,” the NSE notification confirmed.

Likewise, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will host a special trading session on November 1 for all commodity contracts and indices, coordinating its schedule with the stock exchanges.

According to the announcement from the NSE, Muhurat trading will take place from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on November 1. Detailed timings for cut-offs and trade modifications are as follows:

- Session Timing: 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

- Position Limit/Cut-off for Collateral Value and Trade Modifications: 7:10 pm

After this cut-off, new trades cannot be initiated, and modifications, cancellations, or adjustments to existing trades will not be permitted.

The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) has aligned its Muhurat trading hours with the following schedule:

- MCX Pre-Session (Special Session): 5:45 pm to 5:59 pm

- Main Session: 6:00 am to 7:00 am

- Client Code Modification Session: 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm

The client code modification session allows brokers to make last-minute adjustments to accommodate client needs.

Due to the special trading session on November 1, pay-in/pay-out transactions will be adjusted accordingly. Settlement for trades executed on October 31 and November 1 will occur on November 4, 2024, at 8:30 am.
