New Delhi: App-based cab aggregator Uber has hiked fares in Mumbai due to rising fuel prices. Uber said it has raised fares by 15 per cent, PTI reported.

Diesel and petrol prices have risen by Rs 6.40 per litre each between March 22 and March 31. In Mumbai, petrol and diesel prices per litre are at Rs 116.72 and Rs 100.94 respectively.

"Uber is raising trip fares in Mumbai by 15 per cent," Nitish Bhushan, Head of Central Operations, Uber India and South Asia, said in a statement.

He said the hike in fares was to help cushion drivers from the impact of spike in fuel prices.

"We listen to feedback from drivers and understand that the current rise in fuel prices is causing concern," Bhushan said.

The taxi-hailing service also said it would continue to track fuel price movements and take further steps as needed over the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, fuel rates stayed unchanged on April 1. Commercial LPG cylinder prices have been hiked by over Rs 250 effective from April 1. Domestic LPG cylinders have, however, been kept out of the latest round of hike.

In the past two months, the price of a 19-kg LPG cylinder has been hiked by Rs 346 per cylinder. On March 1, the rate of a 19 kg commercial cylinder was increased by Rs 105 and then on March 22, its price was reduced by Rs 9.
