Laid Off From Google, Hired By Amazon: Ex-Employee Earns Rs 3 Crore For Minimal Work In 1.5 Years

The employee, who works as a Senior Technical Program Manager, admitted that he joined Amazon with the specific aim of minimising his work efforts while benefiting from a generous salary

A senior employee at Amazon has made a revelation about his work situation that left everyone surprised. He said he has been earning a substantial salary while contributing very little to the company for over a year and a half. This confession was shared on Blind, an anonymous professional forum, and has quickly gained traction on the internet.

The employee, who works as a Senior Technical Program Manager, admitted that he joined Amazon with the specific aim of minimising his work efforts while benefiting from a generous salary. His annual compensation reportedly totals $370,000 (approximately Rs 3,10,39,263). Despite this impressive pay, he revealed that he has not accomplished any significant goals or undertaken meaningful projects. Remarkably, he has managed to avoid scrutiny from his superiors, successfully maintaining his position and salary without facing any challenges or consequences.

"I joined Amazon 1.5 years ago after being laid off from Google. I joined with the intention of doing ‘nothing,’ getting free money, and eventually getting put on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP),” the employee wrote on Blind.

He added that he has only handled seven support tickets and created one automated dashboard over his tenure. He misleadingly claimed that the dashboard took three months to develop when, in reality, it was completed in just three days using ChatGPT.

The employee detailed that his daily routine primarily consists of attending meetings and deflecting work requests from other teams. "My current day-to-day is saying no to other teams wanting to integrate with my team or having them own 95 per cent+ of the integration work," he said.

This revelation has sparked a debate on social media, where users have shared diverse viewpoints. Some have criticised the employee’s behaviour, arguing that it undermines the workforce's integrity, while others believe it highlights a more prominent issue within corporate structures.

One of the X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “People who tie their self esteem and purpose to their corporate job are completely wrong. A person working 2 hours a day, getting paid for 8 and having all that time for their private lives, family and hobbies,  this person is winning at life.”

“What. How is that possible? And why would anyone go down such a sad, boring path? What do they do all day? No goals?” wrote another user.
