India Needs To Manufacture More Good Quality Solar Panels To Be A Green Economy By 2047: Expert
India Infrastructure Conclave: Rajesh Gupta, Founder and Director of Recyclekaro, said that using gadgets mindfully is also essential when we talk about green economy
ABP Infrastructure Conclave: India still imports a lot of solar cells and panels from different countries. Hence, India needs to manufacture more number of good quality solar panels in the near future to reduce imports and become efficient to achieve our goal of becoming a green economy by 20247, said Prof. (Dr.) S P Gon Chaudhuri, Visiting Professor, IIEST and Eminent Scientist.
He was speaking at the ABP Live India Infrastructure Conclave 2024, held by ABP Live in the national capital on Wednesday, 2024. The event centred on the country's ongoing infrastructure revolution.
Adding further to the point of India’s goal of being a green economy by 2047, Rajesh Gupta, Founder and Director of Recyclekaro, said that using gadgets mindfully is also essential when we talk about green economy. “It is not about just recycling; people should also be encouraged to reuse the product to minimise the e-waste,” he said.
“Recycling comes with a cost. When we talk about removing a metal from a mine or taking it out from a used product to make it useable again, that will always cost more. People have not been doing it until now; only a small percentage of recycled metals are used to produce new products. However, the government’s new e-waste management rules have mandated reusing certain elements to produce new gadgets. I think this is a great step towards making our country net zero economy,” Gupta added.
Mahesh Girdhar, MD and CEO of EverEnviro Resource Management highlighted that there is still a gap in addressing construction demolition waste in the country. He added that the industry needs more government policies that support the use of waste to convert it into energy sources. “More support is needed to create wealth from waste,” he said.
“Whatever we have done in the last 20 years will now be done in 20 years as the speed to transition is much faster today as the government initiative is also speeding up. The government has announced that it will give 100 solar roofs. However, the challenge may arise when it comes to storage capacity. I’m very hopeful that its storage capacity will also come in time as much work has been done on these lines,” said Dr Shrivallabh Goyal, Director & Business Head of Reliance MET.
