V Anantha Nageswaran Appointed As New Chief Economic Advisor Days Ahead Of Union Budget 2022
Dr V Anantha Nageswaran was a former part-time member of the PM’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC) from 2019 to 2021.
New Delhi: With days left for the Finance Ministry to present Union Budget 2022-23 and Economic Survey, the Government of India on Friday appointed Dr V Anantha Nageswaran as the new Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) with immediate effect.
Prior to this appointment, Dr Nageswaran has also worked as a writer, author, teacher and consultant. He was also a former part-time member of the PM’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC) from 2019 to 2021.
Government appoints Dr V. Anantha Nageswaran as the Chief Economic Advisor and today, he has assumed charge.

More About Dr V Anantha Nageswaran
Nageswaran has taught at several business schools and institutes of management in India and in Singapore and has published extensively.
He was also the Dean of the IFMR Graduate School of Business and a distinguished Visiting Professor of Economics at Krea University.
In terms of education, Nageswaran holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad and a doctoral degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
Former Chief Economic Advisor KV Subramanian
Nageswaran's appointment comes after former CEA KV Subramanian completed his three-year terms in office on October 8, 2021. Subramanian announced that he will return to academia after resigning from the post.
A well-known Indian economist, Subramanian was appointed as CEA on December 7, 2018 after his predecessor Arvind Subramanian left the role. KV Subramanian holds an MBA and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in financial economics from University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
His PhD was completed under the mentorship of former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan.
