Former Chairman Of Tata Sons Cyrus Mistry Dies In Road Accident Near Mumbai

Cyrus Mistry Demise: While another person travelling in the car also died, two others were rushed to a hospital in Gujarat in an injured condition.

Former Tata Group chairman and industrialist Cyrus Mistry died in a road accident in Palghar near Mumbai Sunday. After the accident, Mistry was taken to hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Three other persons were travelling with him. While one of them died, the two others have been admitted to hospital in Gujarat in an injured condition.

"Cyrus Mistry, former Chairman of Tata Sons, while travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, died in a road accident after his car hit a divider. 4 people were present in the car; 2 died on spot & 2 were moved to hospital," said Palghar police officials as reported by ANI.

Police said the accident happened around 3.15 pm when Mistry was going from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in a Mercedes car. Mistry's body has been shifted to the Kasa Rural Hospital for postmortem, according to a PTI report. 

“The accident took place around 3.15 pm when Mistry was travelling to Mumbai from Ahmedabad. The accident took place on a bridge over the Surya river. It seems an accident,” PTI quoted a police officer as saying.

Mistry was travelling with Anahita Pandole, a well-known gynaecologist, her husband Darius Pandole and the latter's brother Jahangir Pandole.

Anahita (55) was driving the car. While Mistry and Jahangir died in the accident, Anahita and Darius Pandole (60) survived the crash.   

A PTI report said they are likely to be shifted to a hospital in Mumbai on Monday.

Who Was Cyrus Mistry?

Born on July 4, 1968, Cyrus Pallonji Mistry was a businessman who became the chairman of the Tata Sons on December 28, 2012 after Ratan Tata's resignation.

He was, however, removed on October 24, 2016. The Irish national was the sixth chairman of the group. He was described by The Economist as "the most important industrialist" in both India and Britain. He was the youngest son of Indian construction magnate Pallonji Mistry.
