The Supreme Court commenced its summer recess on May 20, and it is scheduled to resume operations on July 8. Summer vacations also cause the majority of high and trial courts to stay closed in June, whereas winter vacations occur in colder states in December or January.  The tradition of court vacations has often come under fire on account of the mounting pendency facing the Indian judiciary.
