New Maruti Baleno Cross YTB Vs Honda WR-V- Upcoming Crossovers In India
The new WR-V also has a rugged look and the Amaze-like styling sits well within an SUV shape.
There was once a big trend of crossover hatchbacks with the Volkswagen Polo Cross, Fiat Adventure and more. These were hatchbacks but came with a rugged styling theme. Now the trend is back big time with the Baleno Cross or YTB along with the Honda WR-V. Both are crossovers but this time the difference is that the WR-V is based on the Amaze while the Baleno Cross would of course be based on the Baleno.
While we are yet to see the Baleno Cross, the design would be different from the Baleno with a more rugged twist and more ground clearance. The design would be similar to the concept that Maruti showed at the last Auto Expo. The front end would be like the Grand Vitara and there would be cladding too. The new WR-V also has a rugged look and the Amaze-like styling sits well within an SUV shape. The shape is more SUV-like when compared to the current WR-V and also looking more handsome.
The Baleno Cross would come to India with a turbo petrol most likely to differentiate itself from the Baleno while the WR-V would be coming with the same Amaze engines.
The Baleno Cross would also have a 1.2l petrol from the Baleno but the focus would be on the turbo unit with Maruti bringing back a turbo petrol after a long time.
These two would be attractive crossovers that would appeal to buyers looking for hatchback efficiency but with more ground clearance along with a more SUV like look but without getting a full-blown SUV.
The Baleno Cross would be coming earlier with an Auto Expo debut being planned for next year January while the WR-V is slated for an India launch later once the made-for-India compact SUV comes in.
Honda is yet to confirm the WR-V but being based on Amaze, there is of course a certain possibility that it will come. Maruti will also be keen to expand its SUV line-up as well. Hence, if you are looking to buy a hatchback, these two could be an interesting alternative.
