All the devotees who come to Gaya for Pind Daan stay in dharamshalas, hotels, or the residences of priests. There are several beliefs behind this practice.

What Is The Belief?

Pind Daan is a significant ritual for the peace and liberation of the souls of ancestors in Hindu beliefs. The dark fortnight of the month of Ashwin is referred to as 'Pitru Paksha' or 'Mahalaya Paksha,' during which people perform Pind Daan for their ancestors. It is believed that performing Pind Daan grants the deceased soul moksha.

While there are many religious sites for Pind Daan, Gaya in Bihar is considered the most appropriate place. Faith is the essence of Shraddha. The primary focus is on devotion towards one's loved ones, which is rooted in belief. Pindadanis come to Gaya with this faith and do not stay at relatives' homes because of this belief; they do not seek help from their relatives.

Following Several Rules Is Mandatory

The Puranas state that several rules must be followed during the rituals. When visiting the sacred site in Gaya, it is essential to greet the Shraddha land, observe solitude, sleep on the ground, refrain from eating other's food, and remain focused on remembering ancestors or deities, all of which are part of the Shraddha rituals.

Devotees visiting Gaya for pilgrimage are required to follow these guidelines. The journey to Gaya is undertaken to uplift the souls of their ancestors, which is why Pindadanis must remain in solitude or at specific designated locations during the rituals. Consequently, no pilgrim resides at their relative's homes.

It is noteworthy that Gaya in Bihar is recognised as a place of liberation. It is believed that performing Pind Daan for ancestors here frees them from the cycle of birth and death, granting them moksha. This faith draws a large number of devotees to perform Pind Daan during Pitru Paksha, wishing for the liberation of their ancestors.
