Supreme Court Transfers Vivekananda Reddy's Murder Case To Telangana CBI Court

The bench further ordered that all charge sheets and supplementary charge sheets be transferred from Kadapa Court to the Hyderabad CBI Court

The Supreme Court Tuesday transferred the trial in the murder case of former Andhra Pradesh Minister YS Vivekananda Reddy to a Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Court at Hyderabad in Telangana. Vivekananda Reddy's daughter, Dr N Sunitha, petitioned the Supreme Court, requesting that the case be transferred to another state other than Andhra Pradesh.

Acting on a petition filed by Viveka’s daughter Sunitha Reddy, a division bench of the Supreme Court said it was a case to be transferred to a state other than Andhra Pradesh, to expedite the CBI probe into the murder case.

The Supreme Court also said the case was being transferred to Hyderabad as justice need not only to be done but also seen to be done. The bench further ordered that all charge sheets and supplementary charge sheets be transferred from Kadapa court to the Hyderabad CBI Court and complete further investigation at the earliest.

Justice MR Shah stated that the case is being transferred from the Kadapa court to Hyderabad CBI Court as the daughter and wife of the deceased are dissatisfied with the investigation.

The CBI will investigate the first information report (FIR) alleging a larger conspiracy involving Reddy's killing and the destruction of evidence in the case.

YS Vivekananda Reddy, the uncle of YSRCP leader and Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, was hacked to death at his residence in Pulivendula in Kadapa district on March 15, 2019.

The case was initially investigated by a special investigation team (SIT) of the state criminal investigation department before being handed over to the CBI in July 2020, on the direction of the state high court, based on a petition from the deceased's wife Sowbhagyamma, daughter N Sunitha, and others.
