Andhra Pradesh: State Government To Set Up Work From Hometown Centers To Facilitate Working From Remote Locations

Minister Goutham Reddy said that to support work from remote locations for an extended period, the Andhra Pradesh government will provide co-working spaces closer to the employees' home

Andhra Pradesh: In a bid to facilitate work from remote locations, Andhra Pradesh Information Technology (IT) Minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy has set up the state government's Work from Hometown (W@HT) website for IT, Information Technology enabled Services (ITeS) employees, employers and freelancers in Vijayawada on Tuesday.

Minister Goutham Reddy said that to support the hybrid working models and work from remote locations for an extended period, the Andhra Pradesh government will provide co-working spaces closer to the employees' home with facilities such as proper working infrastructure, high-speed internet, uninterrupted power supply and dedicated workspaces. Each center will have a seating arrangement for at least 30 people.

Those who want to work in WFHT centers can call 99888 53335 or register their name at the official W@HT website www.apit.ap.gov.in/wfht/. The government will provide with the opportunity to work in work-from-home centres depending on the availability and demand.

Initially, the W@HT pilot centres at 29 locations will be launched in engineering colleges and APIS facilities in Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, and Tirupati, in coordination with Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation, Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society, Andhra Pradesh Innovation Society (APIS), and Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education.

Depending on the demand of companies and employees, it is likely that these centres will be expanded to remote areas soon.

The IT Minister said that APIS and APIIC centres, including 102 CM Excellence Centers, 500 colleges and 20 engineering colleges, would be converted into work-from-home centres in future.

At present, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam will charge Rs 5,000 per employee per month for working in these centres. A person can also work at WFHT centres from any other town in Andhra Pradesh for Rs 4,000.
