Andhra Pradesh Should Have Amaravati As Capital: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi has announced that the promises given by the Congress party during the bifurcation of the state have yet to be  implemented.

Amid the Andhra Pradesh leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi interacted with the media at Adoni Arts & Science College and said, "We think that Andhra Pradesh should have one capital, and that should be Amaravati".

Rahul Gandhi agreed that the promises made by the Congress party during the bifurcation of the state are yet to be implemented. "We had given many promises during the division of the state. There is a need to fulfil those promises. Polavaram project, special status is also included in the promises. Apart from the bifurcation that happened in the past, we have to focus on the future," Gandhi said.

On Tuesday, a delegation of leaders of the Amaravati Joint Action Committee (JAC) called on Gandhi and explained to him the problems faced by farmers and other sections of people after the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) decided for the three state capitals.

Gandhi stated that his party supported the farmers' demand that Amaravati should be developed as the sole state capital when the JAC asked for Congress' assistance. He also assured them that the party would support them with legal counsel.

JAC leaders, local farmers and farmers who were displaced by the Polavaram project met Gandhi at his camp.

Gandhi said that the BJP had returned to the commitment made to Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act. He also criticised the saffron party for allegedly dividing the nation. He claimed that Congress was combating the BJP's divisive agenda.
