Andhra Pradesh: Second Flood Alert Issued As Godavari In Spate

Gotami, Vashishta, and Vainateya rivers are flowing high due to the water inflow from the Dowleswaram barrage.

The Godavari river continues to raise as a result of the recent torrential rainfall in Andhra Pradesh. After the river reached a height of 13.75 feet at the Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram on Wednesday with a discharge of 13 lakh cusecs, water resources authorities issued a second flood warning.

Authorities have instructed people in the low-lying areas to move to safer places. Many regions of Chintoor, Devipatnam, Kunavaram, Mothugudem etc., have already been flooded. Water is being released from the barrage into the sea and crop canals.

In Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema district, the administration is keenly watching three vulnerable villages in P Gannavaram and Ainavilli mandals, apart from villages in Mummidivaram, Sakhinetipalli, Mamidikuduru and Appanapalli mandals. Authorities have arranged boats as some causeways, especially in Appanapalli, are under flood water, affecting regular transport.
