AP: Hundreds Of Transwomen Involved In Scuffle At Ashada Celebrations In Anantapur, 1 Severely Injured

Transwomen from the states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka came together for an Ashada celebration

Anantapur: As many as 700 Transwomen reportedly involved in a scuffle leaving one of them severely injured in an annual celebration called Ashada festival in a community hall at Andhra Pradesh's Ananthapur. Transwomen from the states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka came together for an Ashada celebration in a city from the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh.

A transwoman from Andhra Pradesh has suffered gruesome injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital following the scuffle, according to a report in TOI. Allegedly the perpetrators were from other states, who attacked the Andhra Pradesh transwomen and stole their jewellery. The Telangana counterparts have tried to save the victims as much as possible.

The police said that the issue came to light when the transwomen from Andhra Pradesh have staged a protest in front of the collector's office in Ananthapur seeking justice for the victim, who got hit by others from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The police further said that they have received th complaint and are investigating the incident.

Transwomen have been participating in many festivals of late and recently one such example was Bonalu — a regional goddess festival in Hyderabad. Transwomen have become an integral part of the regional festival, which was ended recently. A month ago, Nishakranthi, a transwoman hailing from Telangana's Miryalguda, led the procession of Bongaru Bonam, which is regarded as the highest procession.
