Andhra Cops Assault Indian Army Jawan Over Disha App Dispute

The victim was identified as Syed Aleemullah, a resident of Regupaleni, stationed at 52 Rashtriya Rifles Camp in Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir.

An Indian Army soldier was allegedly assaulted during an argument over the installation of Disha app by Andhra Pradesh police on Tuesday. The incident took place at Santabayalu in Paravada Mandal of Anakapalli district. The victim was identified as Syed Aleemullah, a resident of Regupaleni, stationed at 52 Rashtriya Rifles Camp in Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to ANI, Aleemullah was in town for his leave from November 2. On Tuesday, the jawan was waiting for his bus when reportedly four police personnel including a woman cop approached him and took his phone away to download Disha app.

An argument ensued when Aleemullah apparently informed them about cybercrimes involving OTPs and asked to see their badges.

Following this, police personnel reportedly assaulted Aleemullah.

Later, the soldier gave a complaint to SP KV Murali Krishna who ordered an into the incident. The SP also attached four constables in the incident to Armed Reserve, reported IANS.

Taking to social media, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) general secretary Nara Lokesh condemned the incident. He said that something was going on in the name of Disha app brought by the government for the safety of women.

"Forced downloading of the Disha app for women on men's mobiles raises suspicions. It is atrocious that the police attacked Syed Aleemullah, a soldier from Regupaleni, Anakapalli district, who questioned the same. A soldier who risks his life for the security of the country, has no security when he comes to Andhra Pradesh," the TDP leader posted.
