Trump boasts of 'unprecedented success' amid shutdown, Women's March
Washington DC [United States], Jan 21 (ANI): United States President Donald Trump, on the one-year anniversary of his inauguration, has touted the "unprecedented success" of the country under his administration amid the ongoing government shutdown and Women's March.
"Unprecedented success for our Country, in so many ways, since the Election. Record Stock Market, Strong on Military, Crime, Borders, & ISIS, Judicial Strength & Numbers, Lowest Unemployment for Women & ALL, Massive Tax Cuts, end of Individual Mandate - and so much more. Big 2018!" the president said in a tweet.
The tweet falls on the anniversary of the day Trump took office last year.
Furthermore, Trump's one-year anniversary in office was an eventful one, with a government shutdown and Women's Marches rebuking Trump in cities across the country.
The US Government shut down at midnight on Friday after Democrats and Republicans locked in a bitter dispute over immigration and border security and failed to agree on a last-minute deal to fund its operations.
The bill needed 60 votes in the 100-member Senate, but only 50 supported it.
Trump immediately moved to blame Democrats.
"Tonight, they put politics above our national security, military families, vulnerable children, and our country's ability to serve all Americans," the White House said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer has branded Trump as an unreliable negotiating partner, stating that working with him is "like negotiating with Jell-O."
According to the Hill, Schumer drew a comparison to the wobbly gelatin dessert, saying, "Negotiating with President Trump is like negotiating with Jello."
"It's next to impossible. As soon as you take one step forward, the hard-right forces the president three steps back," Schumer added.
On that note, people across the country grabbed their homemade signs, pulled on their pink pussy hats, and poured out into the streets to protest in the second annual Women's March. (ANI)
