San Francisco elects first African-American woman Mayor

San Francisco (California) [United States], June 15 (ANI): San Francisco elected London Breed as its first African-American woman Mayor on Thursday.

Breed, who served as the president of San Francisco's board of supervisors, defeated former state Senate, Mark Leno, as the counting of votes continued a week after the elections took place.

She tweeted to thank her supporters for giving her the responsibility of being a mayor.

"I am honored, humbled, and grateful to be entrusted with the important responsibility of leading our great city. I look forward to facing our biggest challenges together," Breed tweeted.

As per multiple media reports, she gave her victory speech at San Francisco's Rosa Parks Elementary School as she explained her future development plans for the city.

Reportedly, she mentioned issues such as homelessness and promised to provide better facilities to the poorer sections of the society. Breed will continue holding the office of Mayor until 2020. (ANI)
