NE India Fashion Week held in Dimapur to inspire budding designers, weavers

Dimapur (Nagaland) [India], October 6 (ANI): The third edition of North East India Fashion Week took place in Nagaland's Dimapur city on Thursday, with an aim to inspire the budding designers of the region.

Organised by the 'Affluent Ray of Light' in the city's Don Bosco School, the scintillating event brought over 20 designers and weavers from the Northeast region, who spoke about rich fabrics and traditional hand-looms with their designs.

Christening the event under the theme 'The Khadi Movement', the event aimed to play vital role to encourage the budding designers and indigenous weavers of the region.

Speaking to ANI, designer from Assam, Rohita Engtipi said, "I joined this fashion week because I feel that this is the only platform where the weavers and the designers are getting more opportunities to showcase their own traditional attire. This is also a place where weavers and designers can interact with each other. It is also a reminder to the younger generation to uphold the rich and exquisite fabrics of the different tribes from the landlocked northeast. At the same time, the show provides inspiration for the upcoming designers."

"This Nagaland edition of the fashion week is a prelude to the grand show, which will be held in Arunachal Pradesh's Itanagar city later this year," she said.

Meanwhile, a weaver from Itanagar said, "I have been in this profession since childhood and ever since, I'm in love with my work. I was never aware of such fashion show and used to earn money only by selling clothes. Coming here and meeting new people feels really amazing".

Northeast India Fashion Week has been engaged in providing training, marketing, skill development, capacity building, cluster development and promotion of handicraft artisans of the region.

Such a platform provides branding opportunities to the indigenous artisans and weavers and helps creating a sustainable hand-loom industry. (ANI)
