N Korea vows to stop 'unannounced' nuke tests

Seoul [South Korea], May 11 (ANI): North Korea has vowed to halt unannounced nuclear missile tests and to prevent activities hazardous to commercial aviation.

This comes after a meeting between the North Korean authorities and International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) officials in Pyongyang from May 7-9, the Voice of America reported.

The North Korean officials also said that they have "completed" their nuclear weapons programme.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un announced the suspension of the country's nuclear and missile tests and shut down a nuclear test site in the northern area last month.

An unnamed spokesman said that the North Korean officials expressed interest in resuming international aviation services to North Korea and opening new routes through its airspace.

"ICAO also reacted positively to Pyongyang's request for support in the language training of North Korean pilots and air controllers," the spokesman added.

As per South Korean officials, North Korea has proposed to open an air route linking the capital of the Koreas - Pyongyang and Seoul, as well as to other countries.

On April 27, the historic inter-Korean summit was held between Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in at Panmunjom border village in the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ).

The two leaders agreed to end their six-decade-old war and will sign a peace treaty later this year and pressed for achieving denuclearisation on the Korean Peninsula. (ANI)
