German police looking for man suspected of poisoning baby food
Berlin [Germany], September 29 (ANI): The police in southern Germany have been looking for a man suspected of poisoning five jars of baby food in a bid to extort millions of euros from supermarkets and pharmacies, The Telegraph reported.
As many as five jars of baby food were found contaminated with ethylene glycol, one of the most common ingredients of anti-freeze.
The unnamed suspect is believed to be in his fifties and is said to have sent an email to several supermarket and pharmacy chains in the city of Friedrichshafen, threatening to poison more than 20 different foodstuffs unless he was paid a ransom of at least €10m (£8.8m).
The email said he had already poisoned five jars of baby food as proof the threat was serious.
The police later, in a press briefing, warned the public to be on guard against further poisonings. (ANI)
