Bacha Khan University attack: Pak SC suspends death sentence of mastermind

Islamabad [Pakistan], May 17 (ANI): The Pakistan Supreme Court on Thursday suspended the death sentence of Bacha Khan University attack's mastermind, Akbar Ali, in connection with the 2016 Bacha Khan University attack, which claimed 22 lives.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed in the Pakistan top court summoned the complete record of the case from the military court. The hearing of the case has been adjourned for an indefinite period, Express Tribune reported.

Earlier, a military court had awarded a death sentence to Ali.

On January 20, 2016, Ali and other terrorists, all of them who were heavily armed, targeted the Bacha Khan University in Charsadda town of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province.

At least five plotters of the attack were arrested three days later (January 23, 2016). However, only four of the accused were presented in front of the media.

According to the Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Taliban commander Umer Mansoor and his deputy Zakir were responsible for orchestrating the attack. (ANI)
