Afghan troops mobilised to repulse Taliban offensive on Kunduz

Kabul [Afghanistan] , July 5 (ANI): Afghan Ministry of Defence is considering to mobilise additional contingent of troops on the outskirts of Kunduz city to launch a major operation against insurgents.

Acting minister of defence Tariq Shah Bahrami said the MoD will dispatch an additional contingent of troops to the battlefield to thwart a possible attack on the city by the Taliban and their foreign associates.

The ground military operation to clear insurgents will be supported by air operation.

According to Bahrami, Taliban fighters from provinces surrounding Kunduz have flocked to the area as reinforcements for the insurgents.

The security threat level in areas such as Talwaka, Pul-e-Alchin and some regions of Imam Sahib and Ali Abad districts are extremely high.

"The Taliban have also flocked to Kunduz from neighbouring provinces; their foreign colleagues have also mobilised to launch a major offensive in Kunduz," Tolo News quoted Bahrami, as saying, adding, "Air and ground forces are on red alert to be dispatched to Kunduz."

The Afghan security forces are currently tackling insurgents in at least 21 provinces and security threats are extremely high in some of these provinces. (ANI)
