Joe Root Makes History With Century At Lord's, Breaks Alastair Cook's Record | Sports Live

In an emotional moment, Joe Root embraced his father after making history by becoming England's highest century-scorer in Test cricket. Root broke Alastair Cook's record during the second Test against Sri Lanka at Lord’s. Root scored 143 in the first innings and followed up with 103 in the second innings, marking his 34th century in 145 Tests. England posted 427 in their first innings, while Sri Lanka was bowled out for 196. England added 251 in their second innings before being all out. Root, surpassing Cook’s record of 33 centuries in 161 Tests, emphasized his focus on contributing to the team rather than chasing individual records, stating that winning Test matches is his ultimate goal.
