Pradyuman Murder: CBI Registers FIR; reaches Ryan International school to begin probe

The CBI on Friday said it has registered a case in connection with the murder of a Class 2 student of the Ryan International school in Gurugram after it received the request from the Haryana government. A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official told IANS that the case was registered after the agency received the notification from the state government in the Ryan student's murder case. "We have filed a case today (Friday)," the official said. CBI took over the investigation of the case which was earlier registered on September 8 at Police Station Bhondsi, Gurugram under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), 25 of Arms Act, 12 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and 75 of Juvenile Justice (J.J.) Act r/w Section 34 of IPC. The CBI official further said that a team of the agency has reached Gurugram and will visit the school on Saturday to collect more evidence in the case. The Haryana government ordered a CBI inquiry into the killing of seven-year-old Pradhuman Thakur on September 15. Pradhuman was found dead with his throat slit inside the school's washroom inside the Ryan International School in Bhondsi area on the Sohna Road in Gurugram district on September 8, within an hour after his father dropped him.  Police alleged that school bus conductor, Ashok Kumar, 42, killed him with a knife after the boy resisted an attempt to sodomise him. While Kumar has been arrested, his parents and two other staffers claim he was being made a scapegoat.Police have also arrested two officials of the school and are seeking to question the trustees of Ryan Trust, which manages the school. The case snowballed into a major national issue of safety and security of children in schools, with vociferous protests held by parents and activists outside Ryan schools in several states. The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday refused to stay the arrests of Ryan International School trustees in regard with the case.
