No relief from rising prices of petrol as govt. rules out cut in excise duty
A cut in taxes on petrol and diesel is ruled out for now, as neither the central government nor states have the appetite to stomach revenue losses from such a move, a top government official said on Monday, even as two states — Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh — reduced VAT, making petroleum around Rs 2.5 cheaper.
