Uttarakhand Forest Department conducts awareness drive to prevent forest fires | ABP News
In an effort to raise awareness about prevention of forest fires, the Uttarakhand Forest Department is organising meetings in villages located in the Patrampur forest range. Forest fires in Uttarakhand have affected more than 1,437 hectares of green cover since November last year, according to a Forest department bulletin. Although the recent spell of rain in various parts of the state provided much-needed respite from forest fires, with no fresh incidents reported over the past few days, the Forest Department is continuing its awareness drive to ensure that people are sensitised about the dangers posed by forest fires and how to prevent them. Forest fires that occur annually in Uttarakhand not only cause significant damage to the region's precious forest resources but also threaten rare Himalayan fauna -- wild animals, reptiles, mammals, birds and butterflies according to environmental experts.
