Delhi Monsoon Update: The effect of the first monsoon rain this year was visible in Delhi on June 28. Due to continuous rain for more than three hours, there was record rainfall in the month of June in the last 88 years. Five people died in rain-related accidents in the national capital. Due to rain, most parts of Delhi NCR were submerged and all the preparations of MCD, NDMC, DDA, PWD and Delhi Cantonment Board were rendered useless by the rain. A portion of the roof of Terminal 1 of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport fell on cars parked there, killing a cab driver and injuring six others. After this accident the operation of the planes had to be suspended. A 39-year-old man died due to electric shock in Prem Nagar area of Rohini. Two children died due to drowning in rain water in New Osmanpur area of Shahdara. A 20-year-old man died after drowning in rain water accumulated in an underpass in Shalimar Bagh area of north-west Delhi.
